WTF is Carbon Consumption and Why Should I Care?

What if you had to consciously beware of all your carbon consumption for one day. Would you change what you do? What would you appreciate about this nonrenewable resource? Would you convert to renewable resources for your use? One Day Consumption Energy Journal: 7:00 wake up. turn off the fan and on the lamp bathroom with electric heater on turn on the light run the water use the toilet turn on the coffeemaker open the fridge open freezer check my phone radio on tv make smoothie in blender start and get dropped off at school in truck go to studio turn on lights go to class in a room with fluorescent lighting on and forced air heat for 2 hours go to artist talk in lecture theatre full of lights and audio and video equipment and forced air heat in use for 1 hour back to classroom with fluorescent lighting on and forced air heat for 1 hour drive home in truck start a fire in wood stove at home and use enough wood to continue to heat til midnight. look on computer turn on 3 lights/1 CFB in each for living area tv on with radio for 8 hours throughout day/eve in and out of fridge and freezer a couple times make supper in oven and stovetop boil water on stovetop wash dishes in sink use electric heating pad for 2 hours use iphone several times throughout the eve bedtime 12. I think we are a very conservative energy using household. However, I will have solar power in my own home with back up battery. I will have a high efficiency wood stove and another secondary energy efficient heat source, ideally geothermal heating and cooling from the earth. I would also like to own a bike with electric charge battery back up for an alternative to a vehicle.

Calculate your household carbon footprint. So, WTF is carbon consumption?

If the video didn't convince you or you didn't learn anything then how about reading a discussion about climate change with international scientist David Suzuki. One more convincing argument from the intergovernmental panel on climate change an international organization with thousands of scientists from all over the world contribute to the work of the IPCC. Review is an essential part of the IPCC process, to ensure an objective and complete assessment of current information. IPCC aims to reflect a range of views and expertise. The Secretariat coordinates all the IPCC work and liaises with Governments. It is established by WMO and UNEP and located at WMO headquarters in Geneva. Because of its scientific and intergovernmental nature, the IPCC embodies a unique opportunity to provide rigorous and balanced scientific information to decision makers. By endorsing the IPCC reports, governments acknowledge the authority of their scientific content. The work of the organization is therefore policy-relevant and yet policy-neutral, never policy-prescriptive and more information on the History of the IPCC.

So, if you’re like Donald Trump and think there is no such thing as climate change. First, go fuck yourself and second do your research and see that thousands of scientists agree climate change is for real and 195 nations leaders worldwide came together for a Climate Change Summit because it is a major crisis. The 2016 United Nations conference focus was on climate action and the Paris Agreement brings all nations into a common cause to undertake take ambitious efforts to combat climate change and adapt to its effects, with enhanced support to assist developing countries to do so. As such, it charts a new course in the global climate effort. It’s up to us to reduce our emissions and find a way to use renewable energy that doesn’t pollute the earth further by using fossil fuels which are also nonrenewable and damaging to our atmosphere and the air we breathe. “Air is more than just a physical component of the earth. It is a sacred element giving life to all terrestrial organisms, linking all life to a single matrix, and joining past, present and future in a single flowing entity. Our great boast is the possession of intelligence, but what intelligent creature, knowing the critical role of air for all life on earth, would then proceed to deliberately pour toxic materials into it? We are air, so whatever we do to air, we do to ourselves. And this is true of the other sacred elements.” - The Legacy, David Suzuki
