We Have the Will and Can Save the Earth!

We have the will and can save the earth! I am egotistical because I don’t think we can, I know we can. Maybe this will help drive home the message that climate crisis is real and we can do something about it:

So, today a friend said to me, "It’s egotistical that humans think we can change the impact on the earth. The earth has it’s own cycles through history and there is nothing we can do about it.” First, after prodding for more clarity from her and being shocked that people actually think humans don’t cause things to happen on the earth and there is nothing we can do to change it, I’m glad I had to rush off instead of entering a heated debate or wanting to bitch slap her. I am glad I had the day to think on this comment that stuck in my head. Do other people actually think this, I keep thinking over and over. The sad fact is yes, they do. Even some politicians and scientists say there is no such thing as global warming and climate change. WTF! We all live on the same planet don’t we? Are you blatantly blind or just stupid to think such views when the facts and scientific proof are concrete evidence are being shown to proof the earth’s degradation. Just look out your window for fuck sakes. Just over the past 3 winters I've personally seen the water levels rise so high the home I live in won’t be here for much longer, in under 5 years it will be under water because it nearly has 3 years in a row already. When there is pollution like smog and oil spills, contaminated water from deforestation and run off, radiation in our fish, plants and animals in the sea that are wasting away and not seeding and growing where they have for hundreds of years. What about the warming waters and entire coral reefs bleaching and dying. Is this the earths natural cycle or do you see how we have attributed to this destruction? When I learned the history of the local estuary and found out that dredging still occurs here, planes take off and land in the waters here, boats and jet skis race up and down, raw sewage and agricultural runoff are still happening in this day and knowing that this all contributes to the pollution but humans are still doing it anyways in a place that is home for hundreds of species and is a fragile ecosystem. How can you deny the logging that historically occurred and was never properly cleaned up that covered and killed forests of sea grasses and the dredging that occurred to allow barges and boats through to the old sawmill site and increased the turbidity so no plant life could grow do not affect the state of our estuary. It is because of human impact and industry that currently, the K'omoks estuary is unsafe to fish in and that we have to now restore all the sea grasses by hand planting them to try and recover what has been lost. It is human impact that has ripped out the life that mother earth nurtured in this once abundant estuary full of shellfish, salmon and herring, thick forests of eelgrass and marsh grass. Where hundreds of plant and animals species called home in this ecosystem that we humans egotistically did whatever the fuck we wanted and didn’t care about the costs to the earth, the sea, the rivers, and the hundreds of other species that did not have a say in saving their home. We did as we pleased and ruined this place because we think we are superior and can do what we want. The fact is, the climate is changing and we need to do something about it now. The United Nations Paris Climate summit happened this year. 195 countries signed an agreement on climate change. But there were no action plans confirmed, no statements made that adjustments will be made globally to make changes, they came together again and this time they acknowledged they need to do something on behalf of the people they represent but did not make a commitment to make those changes in their countries. I think it will be the people that stand up, the numbers of people that rise up like at Standing Rock, ND and say NO to big companies and our governments to protect our water, and our earth. It will be those of us unafraid to take a stand and protect the earth and it’s resources. We are made of earth and connected to it. The earth feeds us, gives us air to breath, water to drink and land to live. So, I will egotistically say that I want to live and I will speak up the earth, which means I will listen to it and protect and restore it because my life depends on our earth!
