This Place I Call Home, Here in the Comox Valley

Each day the sun rises, and the glistening sea turns yellow, orange and blue The tide comes in and the tide goes out, Fog and clouds some mornings hang on mountain tops, Like wisps of the heavens dipping down to touch the earth. The dew smells of sweet salty air mixed with fragrance of the earth, moss and trees.

It’s a home to thousands of birds and waterfowl an ever changing escalator they take up and down with the tides gliding by for their daily stops along the estuary. Seals play, splash, swirling and twirling around each other then rest in a pile on each other on the banks of the salt marsh. Eagles and herons soar and hunt, they perch on ancient wooden posts Reflections ever changing in the sky, colour this place where the river meets the sea. So much life on the surface, a breathtaking beauty to behold each day.

At night as the sun goes to sleep nestled behind the great snowy glacier, leaving the lavender and pink ripples on a dark blue surface The salty breeze whispers away creating glass reflections of above. Then the earth quiets, and all living things go to bed. The moon comes out, shining bright, bringing in a new light. Twinkling stars above, and homes across the way beam of lights across the night.

This brackish water flooded with dancing light.

The moon moves across the sky shines through my window and wakes me to see it’s magic. This vision of inspiring beauty that quells my fire, touches my soul This feeling of place like never before. My home, this heart of the valley.
